Background

Luther works in law enforcement for London's SCU (Serious Crime Unit). After dealing with a traumatic case involving a child killer named Henry Madsen, Luther suffers a mental breakdown which has put his marriage to Zoe at risk. Luther is extremely dedicated to his job - a trait that is both a blessing and a curse. Idris Elba said of his character, "You know when you watch the news and someone has killed their children? And your instinct is to be like, 'Oh, if I got my hands on them'? Well, his instinct is to do that but he's a police officer. And when he does get his hands on them, he doesn't necessarily follow procedure. He will be as vindictive as the criminal"[

Biography

Series One

John was suspened but later returned to find out who a murder was commimted by. A dedicated copper, Luther is also an inspired maker of connections and a whirlwind genius. He is dazzling, obsessive, possessed - and sometimes dangerous in the violence of his fixations. But Luther has paid a heavy price for his dedication; he has recently suffered a mental breakdown following the traumatic investigation into child serial killer Henry Madsen. On his return to duty, Luther struggles to balance the psychological demands of his work at the same time as trying to save his marriage to his wife, Zoe. Luther and Zoe met and fell in love at university, but their relationship has been under pressure for a long time. Luther has never been able to prevent himself from being consumed by the darkness of the crimes he deals with and this has pushed his wife away. With Luther, the job always comes first and his dedication is a curse and a blessing; an albatross around both their necks. Everyone's happy but in Episode 1, he has discovered Zoe (his wife) has fallen in love with Mark North. He currently wrecks objects when he gets angry but gets over. He feels he's had enough of Alice Morgan and that she killed Henry Madsen to save his life, John tells her to 'stay the fuck away from his life'. Now, he is accused of murder of Zoe who was killes by Ian Reed and is currently on the run and looking at Ian Reed's dead body with Alice and Mark, he simply replies 'now what'?

Suspension

In Episode 1, Henry Madsen was on the run in a building and ran across a bridge. Madsen tried to open a door and Luther appeared. He was standing on a bridge and then Madsen went on the bridge and fell down and holded on and Luther put his hand on Madsen and fell to his coma. John got suspened and was called back but right now, he may be suspened again.

Zoe Luther

While they were both in university, Zoe met and married John. They're marrige broke while Zoe fell in love with Mark North and when Zoe was shot by Ian Reed.

Personality

John is nice but when he gets angry, he goes mad and smashes objects. We first see Luther's anger when we see Zoe tell Luther she has been having an affair. Luther is unable to prove some crimes that Alice Morgan killed her parents and letting her get away with it. Luther mainly is aggresive when he's angry and smashes glass a lot. He gets more angry when he discovers Alice has killed Henry Madsen.
