DS Archie Woodward is a main character of the 2023 crime thriller Luther: The Fallen Sun.
He is DCI Odette Raine’s second in command,Later he is shown have been blackmailed by serial killer David Robey supplying him with information.
Biography[]
At some point before Robey’s crime spree is know,Woodward is blackmailed by him for unknown reasons to supply Robey with any information he requires.
Woodward attends a mansion alongside his boss DCI Odette Raine, The mansion had been deliberately set on fire by a serial killer who has his victims bodies there.He and Raine then return to the office and discuss the killer and the mansion.
Some time later Raine gets a phone call from former DCI John Luther who has received a radio message from the killer,Raine briefly discuss it with him and then hangs up she then informs Woodward let the prison know about Luther’s phone and have it confiscated. Later on Raine whilst in her office gets a call from the prison where Luther was, telling her that he had escaped,Raine then throws a pen at Woodward getting his attention and tells him what has happened.
Following Luther’s escape Raine and Woodward are to track him down when he goes to the location where the radio broadcast came from,Woodward and a police unit arrive but Luther is gone however they find Derek Standish who Luther was interrogating.
Later on Raine recruiters Luther’s former boss Martin Schenk,He says that they can use Luther to help them catch the killer although Raine doesn’t trust Luther,Woodward observes the conversation.The police are able to track the killer’s phone which Luther was able to get the number from Standish,The killer is at Piccadilly Circus.
Woodward and Schenk stays at the police station and Raine heads to the location with an armed unit,Woodward is able to find Luther who is also on route to the same location.Woodward then confirms that Luther is there,However everything goes wrong and Luther and the killer David Robey both escape,Robey also kills an armed police officer.
Shortly after Woodward receives a call from Robey who is annoyed that Luther wasn’t in prison,Robey shouts at him to deal with Luther and threatens to show everyone he knows including his wife and mum what he did.Woodward returns from his call and Schenk notices that he looks stressed ,Schenk suspects that Woodward is up to something.
Some time later Schenk gets a phone call from Luther who says to put Raine on,Luther asks about the police officer Raine informs him that the officer died from his injuries while Luther is on the phone the police begin tracking his location,Woodward then informs Raine of Luther’s location but by then Luther hangs up. Schenk and Raine discuss their killer and figure out from the information Luther provided them with that the killer was involved with a house fire,Woodward becomes concerned due to everyone starting to figure out what is going on.
Later on a police technician approaches him and ask where Raine is however Woodward doesn’t know,The technician shows him a video of the red bunker,The killer’s website Woodward then goes to the toilet and is sick horrified at what he has seen.At some point Robey asks Woodward to set up a alert on Raine’s passport which he does,Eventually he gets a hit and phones up Robey and informs of this and where Raine is heading to,It’s Norway where Robey is.
Robey says he knows who told Raine where he is.It’s his wife, Robey then asks Woodward to do one more thing.He wants Woodward to murder his wife and Robey says that after do this he will be done blackmailing him forever,Woodward reluctantly agrees.Later that day at nighttime Woodward goes to the care home where Robey’s wife is.He enters the hospital but it is empty, He heads to Georgette’s room and prepares to inject her with poison he apologises before doing so but before he can do anything Schenk is revealed to be in the room alongside some police officers,Woodward attempts to exit the room but fails.
Schenk explains that Luther said that someone would be there but he wasn’t sure who,He also says what did Robey have on him to allow it to get that bad.Woodward explains that it wasn’t even that bad,The police officers move in to arrest Woodward however rather than going to prison Woodward injects himself with the poison killing him within a few seconds.

He is shown to be friendly with his colleagues and boss however he hides a secret something that even he said wasn’t even that bad what Robey had on him is unknown.He is shown to be disgusted by Robey activities and upon seeing Robey website he is physically sick.
